Air Force

Overview of this time:

The years passed quickly. I grew up and enlisted in the Air Force when I was 17 years old. At the age of 20 I got married and began raising two lovely stepdaughters – Edna and Ann. I eventually made a 20-year career of the military, and traveled the world. The first 10 years of my marriage, was good, but a three-year assignment in Guam began to change our relationship. Our social drinking also increased dramatically, furthering our marital problems. In time, we each began seeking relationships with others, which ultimately led to our divorce, after returning to the US.

During our one-year separation, before the divorce, I received a promotion to the Military Airlift Command Headquarters in IL. My wife and daughters did not accompany me there. This proved to be a very difficult time for me, and my social drinking turned into a form of medication to stop the pain. It didn’t take long for the alcohol to take control of my life. It got pretty ugly for about a year. Things seemed beyond my control, but God wasn’t finished with me just yet!
